Hands-On Summer!
Cut Your Way To Success!

Welcome to Part Four in my series of
Hands-On Summer Newsletters!

With back-to-school just around the corner, many parents are taking a closer look at their kids' fine motor skills, wondering whether those little hands are ready for all the handwriting that is coming up.

Did you know that scissor cutting is a great way to get your child ready for handwriting?

1) The fingers that hold the scissors should be the same fingers that hold the pencil, so cutting with scissors can help develop the muscles needed for pencil control!

2) The repetitive grasp-release motion of the scissors helps to strengthen the hand muscles and build endurance for handwriting!

3) Bonus: keeping the eyes focused on the cutting line helps to develop functional visual skills as well as visual motor skills!
